Notes:

Burton is not to be confused with various other John Burtons; he was an English glass artist born in 1894 and the author of Glass: Philosophy and Method: Handblown, Sculpted, Colored. He developed new methods for glass blowing (“John Burton’s method”), and is considered a key figure in blown glass lampmaking. Freemesser also directed Hey, Follow Me! and taught photography in the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon.
