Completed in 1938 as a Works Progress Administration–which employed millions of people to carry out projects such as these–project, the Timberline Hotel doubles as historic landmark and popular vacation destination. It is home to Oregon’s first chairlift, America’s second aerial passenger tram, and serves as inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.
