Title refers to number of teenagers every year who contract VD, which, considering the second edition’s title (A Half Million Teenagers) may not speak highly of its instructional quality. Link (Jstor) to an early-Seventies survey of “family life education” says it was widely-used and well-regarded. The 1980s update A Million Teenagers was the first in the series to discuss AIDS.
